For owners
What is my business worth?
Enter last year's numbers. We rebuild your seller discretionary earnings, apply the multiple range buyers have actually paid in your industry, and show you which three drivers move the estimate.
An HVAC company with $400,000 of SDE typically trades between $796,000 and $1,332,000 based on closed deals in this industry.
How the math works
Businesses under about $1M of earnings are priced on seller discretionary earnings: net profit, plus one owner's compensation, plus the expenses a new owner would not carry. Buyers and SBA lenders rebuild that number from tax returns, not from the P&L you keep for yourself, so the add-backs you claim have to survive a stranger's review.
The multiple range for each industry comes from closed transactions in our facts database, lower quartile to upper quartile, with the source and retrieval date recorded. Where you land inside the range is mostly three things: how much revenue is contracted or recurring, whether the business runs without you, and whether one customer could take a fifth of revenue with them. Those are also the three things you can change in the twelve months before a sale.
Above roughly $1M of EBITDA the buyer pool changes. Private equity platforms and strategics price on EBITDA after a market-rate manager salary and pay higher multiples for size, management depth, and recurring revenue. If that is you, the calculator shows a second range built on EBITDA after a manager salary, and that is the one to pay attention to, and the valuation guides by industry explain what those buyers are paying and why.
Frequently asked questions
How is this estimate calculated?+
We rebuild your seller discretionary earnings (net profit plus your compensation plus legitimate add-backs) and apply the lower-to-upper quartile SDE multiple range from closed transactions in your industry. Your answers on recurring revenue, owner involvement, and customer concentration place the estimate inside that range. The calculator never goes outside the sourced range.
Is this what a buyer will pay?+
It is the range buyers have actually paid for comparable businesses, which is the right starting point. The price you get depends on the buyer type, the process, and the structure. Private equity buyers at $1M+ of EBITDA price on a different multiple than individual SBA buyers, which is why larger businesses see a second figure.
What counts as an add-back?+
Your salary and benefits, personal expenses run through the business, one-time costs, interest, depreciation, and amortization. Buyers and lenders accept these when they are documented. They reject add-backs for a replacement manager you still need, for recurring repairs called one-time, and for family members who actually work.
Why is my industry not in the list with a range?+
We only show multiples we have verified from closed-transaction data with a source and a date. Industries without a verified row show no estimate rather than a guess. Our deal team can give you a range from live buyer demand in the meantime.
Does Munera charge for a valuation?+
No. If we have a buyer in our network who fits, the buyer pays our fee. If we run a sale process for you, we work on a success fee at closing with no monthly retainer; a $5,000 engagement deposit is credited against the fee when the deal closes.
